Swear In Next Week!
September 3rd, 2005 by Sarin
Swear in ceremony is next week and PST is wrapping up to a close. Sessions are getting their post evalutions, we’re getting tested for language proficiencies, and I’m starting to get comfortable with living in Cape Verde. I’m starting to feel excited and happy about my 2 years of service and no longer feel as “in the hole” as it sounds like I was in previous entries.
I started finding ways to unwind. As much as it hurts the relationship between my host family and me, I needed time alone to read and listen to music. Even if I was miserable, I would have been doing these things anyway, but at least I’m starting to appear happy doing it. Also, relationships here with other trainees here have become very strong and it’s a good point to spend time with them as much as possible. We’ve all pretty much opened up to each other and hopefully people can see past my “dark” sense of humor. Recently, I have been on a spur of creativity and have been writing a lot of comedic pieces. Since 2 years is long and this encourages thinking, I expect to do more of it. I have also been open to the places that I used to think negatively of before. I am more optimistic and finally happy to be over this gap in my adjustment.
Recently I started having problems sleeping. It wasn’t the heat or the humidity, I think it’s just I’m used to it. If I didn’t ever get much sleeping done in the states, I probably won’t here. So that’s it. My mind and body feels adjusted. And all this without a good cup of coffee.
Swear in is Friday. This week is conferences and festas till we move to our sites. Half of us are moving to other islands, which makes saying goodbye a little difficult. Expect a more detailed write-up of the whole summer, and my first impressions of my “new” home.
