For that one stupid reason

The other day my muffler disattached itself from my car and I dragged its ass all the way across Main street. I of course let it happen.
It was 3:50 on a Wednesday afternoon and I was scheduled to be at Health Services at 4. I of course, was in a rush as usual. At first I didn’t think I would be late leaving my apartment, but minutes turned to hours and I was behind. If I were any more late than I was, then I would have to miss this one as everybody goes home from work at 4:30.
I started my car and “Where The Streets Have No Name” by U2 was playing on the car stereo. For having a huge tolerance of loud music, I immediately blasted the song as I sped the car in reverse out of the parking lot.
The music must have been really loud for me not to hear my muffler dragging its ass across the concrete street. Apparently, the muffler got disattached from violently backing out over the high amounts of accumulated snow in the past week. As I was driving to main street, I assumed all the looks I was getting from people, were looks of “man he is so cool”. I was so not. My car was making more noise than a cat in heat.
Continuing along my drive, it finally clicked in my head when I decided to turn the music down and regain my sanity. My muffler was dragging on the ground, I had to drive past main street in rush hour traffic and I was already late. I immediately lost my sanity and decided to instead of looking for a quick fix, I would just wing it out.
I dragged my muffler through all of main street. Despite numerous finger pointing from ongoing pedestrians and the obviously loud blaring sound of the muffler dragging on conncrete, I continued my task at hand. I really wanted to get to where I needed to be.
The muffler finally fell out across from Stoke. I picked it up, threw it in the back seat and parked my car so I could run in for my appointment. Upon settling in late and finally seeing who I needed to see, I realized why I went through the trouble of dragging a muffler across campus to get to where I needed to be.
It was all because I didn’t want to be late for my appointment with my hot nurse. That was all. And I blame myself for being a kidder.
Was it worth it? At the time yes. My disattached muffler in the back seat of my car was not what I was thinking of when I left the building. ![]()
