I’m Working on a New Layout
December 28th, 2004 by Sarin
Please bear with me.
I am trying to aim for something that looks minimal with style.
So if it looks messy, it will be fixed soon.
I’m artistic, yo.
Update (1/2/2005): Ok, this is the final layout. I know nothing has changed heh? Well besides changing my comment counters (where my ASP.net class helped me learn a bit of SQL and PHP code), absolutely nothing changed. I tried borders, boxes, lines and all that. It distracted from the content, the words, the actual core of a weblog. Less is more, and from this, way less is way more. I’m sick of journals and web sites with ridiculous colors that detract away from the main focus, words. It may not bother most people, but since I look at this blog more than anybody else, this layout will keep me from going crazy.
I can also attribute to me ‘going through a phase’. At once I even considered getting rid of the titles in my photos so the pictures would speak for themselves. I can contribute this influence to several photo weblogs that showcase amazing pictures but absolutely no words, just photography. But however, I feel the urge to tell everybody who is who in which picture.
Which kinda reminds me. Have you ever watched a DVD with no special features, and didn’t feel dissappointed that the DVD didn’t have any? Like you felt that if the DVD had any special features, that it would detract from the core detail of a DVD, the movie. Several movies form Luc Besson and David Lynch follow this formula, and oh yeah almost every single movie on VHS. It’s kinda the same approach I am heading into this weblog. Special features at most times are only good on the first viewing. Just watch (or rewatch) the friggen movie already.

I rather liked the old one. How much simpler can you get?
This is basically it. While the the old one looked cool, I always preferred layouts with all white backgrounds. Plus, I wanted to wash the gray out. I might change it again soon and make rounded corners and some shading but we’ll see.
It kind of drives me nuts that there’s no differentiation between things….like no borders or boxes and whatnot around things.
And apparently I like to compartmentalize
I know, but lines and boxes… too simple sometimes. I can add a border around everything easily, but I am working on getting rounded corners on those boxes for that artsy extra effort effect.
