It was a crazy

5 days but even though it was a less than a week, it deserved to feel like one.

I couldn’t leave home for Thanksgiving until Wednesday, cuz I had to work. But I left work early, to try and beat the rush. That didn’t help much as it got dark by 4, and my severe lack of sleep had my mind ask for a nap. So I pulled over to some random exit in the midst of stand still traffic, parked in a hotel parking lot, and took a half hour nap. I sure as hell wasn’t going anywhere anytime fast. It took me over and around 3 hours to get home on 495 traffic, and I just crashed on the parents’ couch till around 9. JT had people over later, and at points it felt like a full fledged party. I played a couple games of beirut and I totally sucked it up. For the most part most of us kept it chill.

On Thanksgiving morning, I could have sworn a hurricane happened outside and I didn’t want to care. It rained like hell, and the wind whistled through my room like the house was about to collapse. My only thoughts were, ‘it’s great that I wasn’t at the damn football game’, and then I forced myself back to sleep. An old friend down the street came in and woke me up, just to say hi, but I of course went back to bed. My brother had better success as he actually got me up for early Thanksgiving dinner with his girlfriend’s family. We took the main streets of Cranston and made the oh-so-important stop at the super busy Dunkin’ Donuts on Reservoir; I got a latte of course. We super stuffed ourselves at the table while the NFL game was unentertaining, with me being very peculiar with food this year. On the whole I ate modestly, with very little turkey in proportion to the veggies and such (a good cue taken from this past month). After early dinner, we went on a side trip to CVS and Walgreens where I used to work, and I felt nostalgic for a little. I got asked to drop off home, which I then used the time to nap. After I awoke, JT, Meg, Ricky and me hit up a bar near the mall for a couple of hours, and then headed downtown to play some pool.. all of which was open on Thanksgiving night.

On black Friday, I took my time getting up and I didn’t have much planned. I took advantage of the time to go to the mall and get a shirt and pants for this week’s wedding, as usual the mall always takes the best out of me for time. Jay Ward was having a shindig at his place down in Narragansett, so must of us headed down there to do it up. Tony and me left sorta early to get up to Cranston for late night eats and I called the night somewhat early.

Fairly everybody I know has no problem communicating to their parents. But for me, the simplest idea will never get through their head. I’ve lost my skills at Khmer, so to explain to my parents that the brakes on my car aren’t sensitive enough was a chore that lasted 5 minutes on Saturday especially when they can only respond to me with ‘every car is different’. No, I wasn’t going to fall for that after being with this car for so long. After much pleading (in english for some odd reason), I got out there with my dad and he helped clear some air at the root of the tires. It took over 3 hours and he kept pulling me out for more even when I assumed we were done. Frustrated soon after, I had to leave. I didn’t see Lauren at all during break, and it was a good time to get away from the guys after 3 consecutive nights. We packed one of her friends’ car 6 full, and we had some drinks at a karaoke bar before going to a nice restaurant on Thayer. I had about 7 coffees, a crooked back, and a ‘there’s a party in my pants’ joke by the end of the night. And a $35 dinner may have been the most I have spent in some time.

Yesterday wasn’t so bad. The coffee didn’t really affect me the night before; I did sleep very normally and got up at a reasonable hour. I folded all my laundry and packed everything back to get on the road by 2:30. The rain made it a hella lot faster to drive because it was less hallucinating than staring at broken white lines. I got back around 4:30 but when I parked I totally parked directly in a 6 inch puddle all around me. The rain didn’t give in for the rest of the night, and most people walking in and out was getting soaked.

And that was that. Later when I was doing some work, I started to feel hungover. It was only until that moment that I was feeling the weight of the past 5 nights of drinking. That in combination with the moderate amounts of coffee and the extra amount on Saturday night made my body dehydrated. I drank water heavily for 2 hours but I called it quits when the headache wasn’t going away. It was a fun week to be had by all but I could have drunken alot more in comparison to some of my other friends (one friend in particular had an almost non-sober week). It’s great that we have this break before our last two weeks, and it’s also great that by this time most of my friends are at least 21. And that’s one of the small things to be thankful for.
